In this short seminar we will open the door to thinking about how you consider quality assurance generally in your fostering service, it will help you to develop and strengthen your own quality assurance plan.
We will consider the ongoing role of quality assurance in the service, how we audit, dip sample work and learn from any given situation including the importance of evidencing the process of quality assuring the day-to-day work within the organisation, how we evidence this to show we reflect, learn and develop.
There are many quality assurance measures within fostering services, for example:
Having oversight for quality assuring assessments brings perfect opportunities to ask open, probing questions and provide evidence to support the applicants and their applications which are often missed. It is essential that panel members have an evidence-based, analytical and reflective report to be able to make informed recommendations, with reasons.
Also, managers who are responsible for understanding schedule 6 and 7s are required to consider within Regulation 35 reports, the “what does this mean”, “knowing what we know what are we going to do about it” and how this informs our service plans, our key priorities from strategic planning to service delivery (practice).
And the learning from when children’s arrangements end prematurely, when carers leave the sector too soon, when stability within the organisation is a worry. How do we quality assure and reflect on patterns and themes that have emerged?

Catherine Lockett is a registered social worker has worked within various social care settings for 41 years as a social work practitioner and in various senior management positions. Catherine is an associate for NAFP and takes a lead on practice discussions.
