It is essential that foster carers have good physical, mental and emotional health to be able to meet the needs of children in their care. As part of a fostering assessment, a medical report must be produced to evidence and inform of any health issues, and to consider whether health needs identified could impact on their ability to foster. However, during the COVID crisis, GP capacity to undertake medicals has varied even within local areas. The process outlined in this practice guide is intended to support IFAs to follow a robust approach to obtaining the medical information required to progress with the fostering application in a manner that will represent best practice in current circumstances and be compliant with both regulation and inspection.
